I suppose I go tell feedburner where to get it.

I seem to remember the hard-to-find instructions telling me to paste some code into "the appropriate spot" or something to that effect. I really need to sit down with a seasoned podcaster to get this straight once and for all.

Okay. I am attempting to do what I suspect every podcaster and blogger already knows. But... who knows.

Previously, I was storing my mp3 podcast shows on the archive, updating my feed at poderator.com and then checking out feedburner.com, where the rest of the magic happens. I was told by Bre Pettis that I could skip the poderator step if I had a blog, but I didn't get it. Finally, I was dinking around in my settings and found the activate feed option.

I don't really know what's going to happen, but there's only one way to find out. Here goes!

One is a Happy Accident, Two is Just Plain Happy

Short-term victory is mine! The second Unponderable Podcast is up and running.

I'm still making sense of all this and trying to make it as smooth as possible. If you need to subscribe click here and then click "open" on the download window. The totally amazingly awesome thing is, once you subscribe, that's all you have to do! From then on, just decide when you want to listen and enjoy from the comfort of your iTunes!!!

Let's keep this simple.

Use whatever you are already comfortable with. If you have never used any, go with iTunes. Download the latest version right here.

Click on Music Store, a green box on the left side. Click on "sign in" on the upper right side. Create an account (this will require payment information, but will only charge you if you specifically buy commercial music).

When iTunes is installed and open, click the link right here, and then click open on the download window and the Unponderable Podcast should appear in your iTunes podcast folder (the purple icon to the left).

So Far, So Good

Sweet! I think you can subscribe to the Unponderable Podcast using any of the following:
iTunes
Podnova
Newsgator
Odeo
My Yahoo!

Each of these is FREE and will require you to setup an account. This is as simple as creating a username and password and maybe accepting some terms of usage. I'm most familiar with iTunes. When using this one, select "open" as opposed to "save" on the download popup window.

The next step for me is figuring out where to put additional podcasts so that subscribers receive them automatically. This is getting exciting!

Getting the Podcast Out There

As this is all part of a research project (and that I begin this endevour with no first-hand knowledge of RSS, webhosting, XML, etc.) I have been trying various services and sites that promise to get my podcast out to the world. In keeping with the theme of sharing my own trial-and-error education with others who may benefit, I'm posting the pertinent fruits of my labors. Try the link to the first episode below, and then I'll tell you how I got it.

Unponderable Podcast 01

1) I stored my podcast mp3 file on the internet archive. This is like the Alexandria Library of the 21st century, except that ANYONE can stash their work upon the shelf for others to check out. It is also FREE. Save as much media there as you like. This provides me with a link to my space there: http://www.archive.org/details/Unponderable_Podcast. The direct link to my mp3 is: http://www.archive.org/download/Unponderable_Podcast/UP_01_Introduction.mp3.

2) Next I went to Poderator.com where I created an account, filled in the necessary info and received an XML (Extensible Markup Language) file called "Poderator.xml" (again, FREE). With this I got the instruction to "transfer the file to your web server." I have web space through Antioch University, so I copied the file to that folder and this gave me the location for my feed: http://mail.antiochsea.edu/~john_reseland/Poderator.xml

3) I went to FeedBurner.com and followed the proper paths to getting the feed out to the world. Here I get: , which is the "Unponderable Podcast 01" link above (also FREE). Now I'm going to publish this post and check the links to see if and how this all works.

Howdy, world.

This is my first shot at blogging and podcasting and it is the product of my master's in education thesis. This link will allow you to hear the very first Unponderable Podcast, which outlines the rationale and methodology of the project. The plan is for about 10 half-hour episodes in which new teachers talk about their research, reflect on their experiences, and explore the educational potentials of podcasting.

The original impetus for this project was for me to jump into a medium that I would have to learn while using it. DIY! So I'm still learning, but picking up speed and feeling the power of the podcast! YES! Click on Unponderable Podcast and subscribe to follow this project. The timeline is short, just a couple of weeks, so the episodes will be coming and going.

I'm traveling this learning adventure on the free route as much as possible, so when the audio pops up from the above links, it starts with a couple of advertisements from the hosting site, switchpod.com.
